Recently I've been lucky enough to interview one of my favourite bloggers, Savannah from Zola blog! She is an endless source of inspiration for me, and all of her answers were so interesting to read, so thank you Savannah!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Where to begin... Well, I'm Savannah. I'm 15, and I share my life with the Internet, and for some reason this is pretty normal. What a weird world we live in. I love Jesus, and I adore people. You'll pretty much always find me in a suburb by the sea, trying a new cafe, reading on the beach, market shopping or getting experimental with film photography.
When & why did you start blogging?
I've had various blogs and websites on and off from the age of about 7, but I only started Zola in 2013 after finding a previous blog I'd had and deciding it was time to get back into it. I've always been in love with the idea of blogging, there's something about having a voice and a space that's 100% me that gets me really excited. I mentioned that I love people, and I love to brighten people's days. Blogging is such an easy way to do that, to inspire someone, to make them smile so that's why I do it.
What do you blog about?
Zola is mainly a fashion blog, I document what I'm wearing and what is going on in my life. It also features monthly playlists, always filled with indie pop wonders. You'll also find the occasional motivational rant, more personal post and maybe even vlog videos. I like to experiment :)
Who inspires you?
I read a lot of blogs, and spend far too long on Pinterest so inspiration has never been a problem. I find teen bloggers really inspiring, Chloe Larkin and Vanilla Craft, Lost But Not Found, Fabuleia, Freshly Pickked of course, and Views of Now. I've been obsessing over the blog Le Happy, Zoella and I'm also getting quite into Tyler Oakley.
Out of all the blogposts you’ve written, which has been your favourite and why?
Shivers, that's so hard. I've written well over 100 now, and it just keeps getting better. Getting to posts looks I’ve styled is something I’ll always love but I have to say one of my alltime favourites is a post I did called ‘Hope For Homeless’. I wrote this after doing a sleepout to raise awareness for homelessness, and that was really special for me. It was one of the first posts I did that actually meant something, if that makes sense. I love being able to have that influence, and make young people think about the important things outside our immediate world.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Oh there are so many things! One thing that I would love to see is education made available to every child in the world. That might be crazy and unrealistic, but thinking that kids can’t go to school just breaks my heart. I feel like all we do is complain about school, when so many kids don’t even get the chance. There’s just so much potential and so much more these kids can do with their life if they have a basic education.
What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment?
I remember the day I hit 100 followers on my blog, that was a huge accomplishment for me. I started my blog for fun, but I was working really hard to get new followers and reach out to my readers. When I did get to 100 it was such a great feeling, to know that people were enjoying what I was writing. And now the only way is up!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
One thing that I've learnt this year is not to judge people too quickly. Especially with social media, it's easy to look at a persons feed and stereotype them into a box. I'm totally guilty of this, if I see someone with a lot of risky party photos I often think, wow they must be a really bad person, I don't want to be friends with them. That's the kind of impression you get, when you see how some people portray themselves online. But with thinking like that all you really do is cut off possible friendships. Everyone in the world has something to teach you, even if it's how not to live your life.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Shower... That's not very exciting.
I feel like I'm the only blogger in the world who wouldn't answer that question with 'check my Instagram', but showers for me are like coffee. I can't wake up without one!
If you could spend a day with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Oh my! There are just too many cool people. I would die to hang out with Taylor Swift, maybe Alexa Chung or Zoella. I also really love Walt Disney.
What are some of your dreams/hopes/plans for the future?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately as the year comes to a close. It seems like the HSC is coming ever closer, and then school will be over which terrifies me a little, because I just don’t know what to do yet. Obviously the dream is blogging as a career, that would be beyond amazing. I also really want to travel, particularly Japan and Europe. Maybe even going to uni overseas… watch this space!
You can check out Savannah's lovely blog here, full of her fantastic sense of style amongst other rad things. Also, make sure to look out for another collab we did that will be coming to her blog soon! I hope you're all having a lovely day,
